Smooth, Relaxing Movements with Tai Chi & Qigong by Kim Kubsch

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017

August 15 is National Relaxation Day
Relaxation Day is all about winding down and just taking it easy. If you’re lucky, you celebrate some relaxation every day. Maybe enjoy a quiet time watching TV from the sofa, a nap mid-day, a mindless bath. Exercise is proved to help lift your mood and reduce stress. Perhaps consider some easy and gentle Tai chi – Qigong, all in the spirit of RELAXING!

Do you want to delay Brain Aging? MIND Diet Workshop on Wednesday, August 23
Do you want to keep your MIND strong through the years? Diet is a powerful environmental factor that affects our thinking abilities in youth and impacts whether we develop dementia as we age. Join five other participants on Wednesday, August 23 as I introduce you to the powerful role of diet on brain health. Learn about clean, MINDful and healthy nutrients for every meal, plus shopping lists for various stores. RSVP early to [email protected] to be assured of your space and prepay $40 in advance. Time: 1:30-3:30pm, venue: Kim’s kitchen in Sun Lakes.

Fitness Tip:
Start now – do a few jumps each day, resting for 30 seconds after each jump. Eventually, build up to 2 sets of 20 jumps a day, resting 30 seconds after each hop. Putting stress on leg and hip bones can help pre and menopausal women to increase hip—bone density. If jumps don’t sound good to your knees or hips, lift and lower your heels 20 times, twice a day. Be sure you have a chair or sturdy furniture to hold on to while tapping – this will also help your balance!

How stable is your balance on one leg?

Sunday, July 2nd, 2017

Dear Tai Chi-Qigong & Culinary Friends,

July 4th is Independence Day
More than one in three persons over the age of 65, falls each year, often at home. Up to 80% of these falls occur in the bathroom. During our youth, we have a quest to be “independent.” And during our vintage years of 65+, we cherish our independence and want to stay living in our own home as long as possible. There is no free ride to the latter form of independence. We begin to realize that loss of muscle strength can diminish, as can overall energy.

My Sun Lakes easy and gentle tai chi-qigong classes are an indoor activity that focuses on continually flowing movements. These movements increase muscle strength, improve balance, and relax the mind and body while using slow, deep breaths. The movements are modified for individual comfort and safety. Chairs are provided to either stand behind to help keep the leg lifted or stay seated and enjoy the meditative movements.

Do you want to stand on one leg for 30 seconds, followed by the opposite leg for 30 seconds while doing gentle movements? Try one of my classes below to contribute to your independence today and every day!

Make Your Balance Great Again DVD to be released in mid-April 2017

Wednesday, March 8th, 2017

April 2017 release of my new Balance DVD:
This DVD will be released in April, demonstrating a daily balance program for better mobility, stability and agility in and around the homes of mature adults. Filmed in various homes and apartments, the participants range from 60-99 years of age. Some have had hip, shoulder and knee surgeries and several have arthritis, carpel tunnel, fibromyalgia, glaucoma and hearing challenges. From the bathroom to the garage to the kitchen, your home can be your best exercise opportunity without getting dressed and out of the house!

In over six years of teaching easy and gentle Tai Chi –Qigong to mature adults, the participants have provided me daily insights to a wide range of balance challenges. One of the many benefits of a Tai Chi practice is that it helps improve balance targeting all the physical components needed to stay upright: leg strength, flexibility, range of motion and reflexes – all of which tend to decline with age. Click to view my weekly class schedule to give it a try.

July 4th – A Celebration of our Independence

AARP created a HomeFit Guide to help people stay in the homes they love by turning where they live into a “lifelong home,” suitable for themselves and anyone in their household. The guide offers solutions that range from simple do-it-yourself fixes to improvements that are more involved and require skilled expertise but are well worth the expense. Click to download your guide to live independently at home as long as possible.

With my experience as an Aging in Place Specialist and Fall Prevention Specialist, I totally support “senior-proofing your home,” in addition to safe and daily movements.  Don’t let your lazy boy chair make you lazy. Get up and move your energy and strengthen your muscles in the process.  Prevent falls, rather than react to them . Are you aware that studies report statins and cholesterol drugs can weaken the muscles over time?  Read more.

How to Create Your Summer  “NO Fly & Mosquito Zone”

Using insect repellant is a no-brainer these days, especially due to the rise of the Zika virus, a flu-like disease spread by mostly mosquitos.  Oil of lemon eucalyptus acts as a true repellent that is safe for all.  Stay protected, apply correctly and choose your favorite application to include spray, wipes, and lotion.  Click to  Shop Amazon:  Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus.
